Myanmar nationals taken to hospital after minor fight with police in Tokyo

Japan Today
Eight people including Myanmar nationals were taken to hospital Saturday after about 150 Myanmar residents in Japan and others were involved in a minor fight with police in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo’s Shinagawa Ward, police and firefighters said.

Myanmar residents in Japan and others gathered in front of the embassy before noon, demanding that residents be allowed to cast their votes on a bill for a new Myanmar Constitution. Myanmar will hold a national referendum on the bill on May 10. Police tried to move the Myanmar residents and others away from the embassy. But they began to push and shove each other at about 1:30 p.m., making some Myanmar nationals and others feel ill, the police said.
