Tasmania contributes to Burma aid effort

ABC Monday, 19 May 2008

The Tasmanian Government has committed $100,000 to the Red Cross relief effort in Burma.

The Premier, Paul Lennon, says the human toll and devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Nargis is overwhelming.

Up to 2.5 million people have been affected by the cyclone which made landfall on May 2.

Mr Lennon says the money will help Red Cross deliver crucial services including shelter, clean water and basic household items.
