Air Force dispatches C130 plane to deliver supplies to Myanmar

Relief 19 May 2008

Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, ACM Chalit Pukbhasuk, reports that the air force has prepared a C130 aircraft to deliver supplies to people affected by the cyclone Nargis in Myanmar. Donated items are transported by the plane one to two times per day.

However, ACM Chalit says one major obstacle concerning delivery of supplies, is that the air force is required to file for request from Burmese authorities for landing each time. The air force chief says he will request the Supreme Commander to increase flights to deliver supplies to Myanmar next week.

In the meanwhile, Navy Chief Admiral Sathiraphan Keyanon says the navy is ready to provide full assistance to those affected people in Myanmar and it has dispatched naval attachés to the country to facilitate the Myanmar government if it needs help.
