Music from East and West, from traditional Burmese dance to acoustic folk-rock, will be featured in a benefit concert in Sebastopol on April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Sebastopol Community Center, 390 Morris Street.
The event, which lasts until midnight, also will include a silent auction, food, crafts from Burma and Thailand, vendors, presentations and a door prize.
The artists include John Tyler Garcia, jam folk; Baba Shibambo, roots reggae blues; David Kai, acoustic folk-rock; uMana, tribal folk trance; and the Burmese Youth Association.
A donation of $20 a person is asked.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Foundation for the People of Burma, a nonprofit organization providing humanitarian aid to the people of Burma, and the Sae Taw Win II Dhamma Foundation, a Graton-based nonprofit organization that supports the Burmese Buddhist tradition.
The event is called “Giving Back to Burma,” because for centuries the people of Burma have maintained the essence of the teaching of the Buddha – their gift to the world.
