Kaladan Press Tuesday, 29 April 2008

Teknaf, Bangladesh: An abundance of hair worth Taka 2.1 million was sized by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) from the Bangladesh-Burma border on 27 April, while it was being smuggled to Burma, according to our correspondent.

The hair was brought to Teknaf from various places to be smuggled to Burma. It was kept in a place near a Buddhist temple of Chawdhury Para in Nilla union, Cox's Bazaar district, sources said.

On being tipped off, the commander of Nilla BDR out post went to the spot and sized a huge number of sacks of hair worth Taka 2.1 million en route to Burma. Sensing the presence of the BDR, the smugglers fled. No body was arrested.

However, the BDR filed a case in the Teknaf police station against the smugglers, said a close aide of the BDR.
