Junta poll plans

The Standard
Burma's military rulers said they will hold a referendum on their proposed constitution on May 10 which they say will clear the way for elections in 2010.

Aung Toe, chairman of the commission tasked with organizing the referendum, said the decision was made earlier yesterday during a meeting of the commission in the remote capital Naypyidaw, and gave no other details.

The National League for Democracy, led by detained Nobel peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, has already urged voters to reject the constitution.
