Junta recruits residents in Nam Tu in burma army

KNG
Residents are being recruited as soldiers by the Burmese military junta authorities in Namtu Township in northern Shan State since 2006 without any reasons being cited, a resident in Namtu said.

The Namtu based, Light Infantry Battalion (324) led by Major Ye Tu have been recruiting two residents in the army as soldiers every year. The residents in Namtu have to provide the people, a resident told KNG.

The residents in Namtu also have to collect 4,500 Kyats (esp. US $ 4) per household and an estimated 700,000 Kyats (esp. US $ 628) to give to the recruited soldiers, a resident added.

The residents also have to do whatever authorities want them to do and at the last moment. The residents have to serve officers who have come to make national temporary identity (ID) cards.

"It is not the first time we are serving them. We do it whenever they come" said a local.
