TAQ0304.005 India, Myanmar sign cooperation agreements

New Delhi (VNA) – India and Myanmar have signed agreements on multi-modal transit transport project and double taxation avoidance, which aim to increase their bilateral trade, local media reported.

The signing took place during a five-day visit to India by Myanmar’s Vice Senior General Maung Aye, beginning on April 2.

At a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Myanmar’s Vice Senior General Maung Aye, the two leaders stressed the possibility of cooperation in crude oil between the two countries.

Indian PM Singh expressed his pleasure with the countries’ agreement to develop the Kaladan corridor project and other agreements. The Kaladan project would enhance connectivity between Myanmar and India, in particular with India's North East States.

He stressed the importance of pursuing more cross-border projects to promote greater connectivity and economic engagement between the two countries. Under this topic, the two sides also discussed cooperation in border security.

The Indian PM reiterated India 's commitment to support Myanmar in the telecommunication and IT sectors.-Enditem
